HCCA Board and Audit Committee Compliance Conference

Tom O’Neil moderated the panel “Compliance Oversight: Board, Management, Compliance Officer, and General Counsel Roles,” which featured Felicia Heimer, a senior enforcement attorney from the Office of Inspector General, US Department of Health and Human Services; James Sheehan, director of the New York State Attorney General’s Charities Bureau; and Winfred Parnell, a board member and retired physician.

The government representatives emphasized what they value most when reviewing an organization’s compliance and ethics program. Dr. Parnell provided insights on operationalizing government guidance and overseeing a compliance and ethics program from the board room.
