Brett Witherell is a member of BRG’s Corporate Finance practice. He has over fifteen years of experience and has held numerous corporate finance and banking roles focused on financial services, cash management, risk management, hedging, accounting, and lending.
Mr. Witherell has managed currency exposure both in an international currency hedging program for a Fortune 200 company and within a commercial banking environment. He also has significant restructuring experience, having restructured over $900 million in non-performing commercial real estate loans and helping to lead a $15 billion mortgage lending and servicing company through the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process.
Mr. Witherell’s experience ranges across a variety of finance areas, from treasury and cash management to FP&A and strategy. Sample engagements include:
- Responsible for cash management, collateral segregation, and liquidity reporting for a $15 billion mortgage servicing company throughout the Chapter 11 bankruptcy process
- Redesigned the corporate cost allocations structure for a $10 billion auto rental company, improving transparency, reducing complexity, and removing more than $2 billion in annual allocated costs
- Completed a business plan review of a $700 million grocery retailer, including an analysis of operational and liquidity enhancing initiatives, store-by-store profit and loss analyses, and enhancements to working capital
- Conducted an earnings, business plan, and operational review of a $30 million newspaper publisher in advance of a private equity buyout
Before consulting, Mr. Witherell was employed as a vice president at Anglo Irish Bank, where he was heavily involved in the operation to wind down the bank’s entire $9 billion US loan portfolio, and in 2011 he helped close the sale to multiple buyers. He also has over seven years of experience working in finance positions for a large Fortune 200 technology company.
Mr. Witherell is a CFA Charterholder and is a member of the Boston Security Analysts’ Society, Turnaround Management Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, and CFA Institute.
