Staffing to Demand in Emergency Department

BRG professionals collaborated with a Texas Level I trauma center emergency department (ED) to assess department operations and optimize staffing patterns. The department treats over 40,000 patients annually in a facility licensed for 310 inpatient beds. On-site assessment and analysis of data revealed department throughput metrics were within industry benchmarks; however, an opportunity existed to optimize the ED’s staffing pattern to meet the patient arrival and census patterns.
