John DelPonti is a leader in BRG’s Financial Institution Advisory practice.
Before joining BRG, he was a managing director in the Banking, Insurance, and Capital Markets group of an international management consulting firm for nine years. He has also served as the chief executive officer of a mortgage originator and servicer, chief risk officer of a $30 billion thrift company, and a partner in the Consumer Finance and Banking practice of a Big Four firm.
Mr. DelPonti has over thirty-three years of financial services industry and consulting experience. He has expertise in the areas of enterprise risk management, bank regulatory compliance (Consumer Finance Protection Bureau (CFPB), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), Federal Reserve Bank, Federal Deposit Insurance Company), enforcement actions and remediation, strategic analysis, consumer finance and mortgage banking, acquisition due diligence, capital management, organizational design, credit reporting (including Metro2 compliance), technology enablement, and portfolio asset management.
Mr. DelPonti provides consulting, advisory, and expert testimony services for global financial institutions. He works as a trusted advisor for board of directors, the C-suite, and business units. He focuses on clients’ pressing issues and helping to reshape their business operations and processes by assisting in improving controls, reducing costs, and enhancing quality. He has worked with top 20 banks and consumer finance companies and has subject-matter expertise in mortgage, auto, credit cards, student loans and deposits. He brings both direct industry experience and consulting expertise.
Mr. DelPonti has managed hundreds of banking and consumer finance consulting engagements. His recent engagements before joining BRG focused on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of a bank’s operations and compliance function. By leveraging automation in the loan and transaction testing processes (using RPA and AI) and outsourcing when possible, the client realized cost reductions of 30 percent annually. Other significant engagements included conducting industry benchmarking of a bank’s mortgage origination and servicing units (costs/processes), completion of a merger integration and transfer review for a top 20 servicer, analysis of a bank’s sales practices, and design/ implementation of a new credit reporting system. Mr. DelPonti has advised clients on acquisitions and performed third-party due diligence for an industry-leading mortgage REIT. He has served as independent consultant for consent orders required by the CFPB, OCC, and Federal Reserve.
Mr. DelPonti has provided expert testimony and support related to a bank’s loan underwriting and processes, its account closing procedures, and a student lenders’ compliance with credit reporting guidelines.
